What is your favorite hotel to stay at close to Disneyland with very young children? We are hoping to keep the walk to and from at a minimum. Thanks!

Hello there, Cecie, and welcome to planDisney!

Thanks so much for submitting your question to me and how wonderful that you'll be visiting the Disneyland Resort so early into the new year! I can't think of a better way to usher in 2025 than by going to The Happiest Place on Earth. Instead of feeling blue, you're starting your year off right!

Of the three official Disneyland Resort Hotels, my favorite has always been the original Disneyland Hotel! This property opened up in 1955 soon after Disneyland Park and looks nothing like its initial motel-like beginnings. Since Disney obtained the Hotel in 1988, they've re-imagined it into a wonderful destination for families and Guests of all ages. You'll have a short walk through the Downtown Disney District to get to Disney California Adventure but you can take the Monorail directly into Disneyland Park. You really can't go wrong with any of these three Resorts, though. I actually detailed all three in a recent answer

If you're wanting to stay at one of the nearby Good Neighbor Hotels, I would recommend: Candy Cane InnHoward Johnson Anaheim Hotel and Water Playground, or Castle Inn & Suites. As a child, I loved staying in themed accommodations and these Hotels do a wonderful job of being fun and whimsical. Candy Cane Inn just completed a remodel and I love their continental breakfast. Over at the Howard Johnson, the kids will have a fun themed Water Playground to enjoy if they want to take a mid-day break from the Parks. All of these Hotels are within walking distance to the Main Entrance Plaza.

You'll be visiting just after the Lunar New Year (January 29, 2025), so be on the lookout for any details on the Lunar New Year Festival at Disney California Adventure! It's going to be the Year of the Snake, so be thinking of some of your favorite Disney snakes. My personal favorite is the one on Indiana Jones Adventure! Cecie, I wish you a truly magical visit to the Disneyland Resort and we'll ssssssee you real ssssssoon!

    Have a Magical Day!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
