Hi Jordan, and welcome to planDisney! I’d be happy to help with your older
MagicBand.
While you can deactivate and reactivate MagicBands (more on that in a bit), linking a MagicBand is permanent at
Disney World. So even if you deactivate a MagicBand, you can’t reassign it to another profile. If you’re ever at
Disneyland in California, it does work differently there. At Disneyland, you can link and unlink MagicBands to associate them with specific tickets and
Magic Key passes (even if the band is linked to your Disney World profile). They’re not permanently attached to a profile at that resort.
If you’d still like to deactivate your older band, here’s how you can do that. Go to
MagicBands & Cards on the Disney World website and scroll down to Manage MagicBands or Cards. Find the person who has the band you’d like to disable and click the triangle to the left of their profile. Find the MagicBand and click the Deactivate button. You can always click the Activate button if you change your mind!
I recently did this with a few older MagicBands I no longer use. In my experience, the battery lasts a long time for things like scanning in at theme park and
Lightning Lane entrances and opening your
Disney Resort hotel room door, but you may notice that it becomes less responsive over time for longer range functionality like linking atutomatically to attraction photos (like the ones on
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and
Haunted Mansion).
If you’re in the market for a new MagicBand, the newer MagicBand+ has some fun features, like interacting with the
Disney Fab 50 Character Collection statues and nighttime spectaculars. I also like to use the newer bands with the
Play Disney Parks app to play the
Batuu Bounty Hunters game. It’s a great way to explore
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
I hope this helps you decide what to do with your older MagicBand. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to visit us again at planDisney.
