Beth,
Thanks for asking your question to planDisney!
My family and I just stayed at
Disney's Contemporary Resort in April, and we loved it! Prior to our arrival day I had already used the
Online Check-In service in our
My Disney Experience account, so when our room was ready, not only did our room number show up in our
My Disney Experience App, but they also texted me the room number the moment that it was available. It was so convenient to be able to head straight up to the room, bypassing the front desk, so we could drop our bags off, put our swimsuits on, and start the vacation off with a dip in the pool!
To be clear, Disney does not tell you your room number ahead of time. The room number is only shared when it is ready for you and your family to move in. But if you might want a different room than the one they initially assign to you, you can still go to the front desk to see what other choices are available. There are no guarantees that they can move you to another room, of course, but it never hurts to try. On a trip to
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House a while back I wanted to see if I could get a room closer to the lobby than the one assigned. They were great at helping me find a new room, which was exactly what I was asking for!
BONUS TIPWhile Disney cannot guarantee a request to a specific building or room, when you use the Online Check-In service for your Disney Resort Hotel stay there can be options to request things like what floor you want to be on, and in some cases what section of the resort you prefer. This changes over time and by resort, but certainly take advantage of any opportunities to let them know what you would prefer.
