For the check in process, you stated the head shot needs to be a certain size. What is the correct size in inches?

Why hello there Cheryl, and welcome to planDisney!

It sounds like you've taken the time to read some of my advice or bits of nautical knowledge for folks preparing to set sail on Disney Cruise Line, and I'm glad you've come to ask me directly about photos required for the Online Check-In process! I had a look back at the guidance I've given about starting this process before the cruise, the ideal file format for your photo as well as what happens if you hit a snag like a Pending Review status along the way and here are a few helpful tips to help steer you in the right direction:

    • When we at planDisney or Disney Cruise Line Cast Members refer to the size of the photo this doesn't really refer to the physical size in measurable inches but the size of the image file itself. After noticing that fellow seafaring guests have reported that larger files either take too long or fail to upload (and thereby eat up precious time completing their Online Check-In to snag a desire Port Arrival Time), I ran a few tests on my most recent cruises to determine what could make this more efficient.
    • Since many folks take their head shots using their phones nowadays, it's easy to forget that what they're ideally looking for is an image of your face from above the shoulders. Cropping the image ahead of time on your personal device or computer saves the extra step of having to do this during the Online Check-In process, and compressing the photo to be smaller in size (again in terms of the file itself measured in kilobytes or megabytes) often means a swifter upload. For some less tech-savvy folks, this can sometimes be achieved by sending the image through a messaging app that automatically compresses images!

Hopefully this helps, Cheryl! Rest assured even the most perfectly photographed and formatted image might not always be approved so the Cast Members on Embarkation Day may retake it themselves just in case. Come back again to planDisney to ask our leading ladies of the seas JoVonn, Shannon and Tracie for their current Disney Cruise Line expertise!

Here's to a sensational sailing this summer!
