Hi Gina, and welcome to planDisney! I have so many cherished memories from celebrating my 40th at Disney World. So I’d be more than happy to chat about restaurants for your milestone birthday!
My top pick would be
California Grill at the
Contemporary Resort with its delicious multi-course menu and stunning view of Cinderella Castle. I recommend making a reservation for about 90 minutes before the
Happily Ever After fireworks show at Magic Kingdom that day, which will give you ample time to be seated and get through most of your meal before the show begins. Watching that evening’s nighttime spectacular from California Grill is such a magical experience! During the show, the restaurant dims the lights and pipes in the music. You can watch right from your table or outside on the balcony. Even if you can’t snag a reservation at the perfect time, typically you can still come back (or arrive early) and watch the fireworks from that outdoor observation deck. Just show your same-day dining receipt to the Cast Member at check-in.
For something more unique, I love
Jiko over at
Animal Kingdom Lodge. The restaurant is beautifully designed, with nods to African birds and the incredible sunsets, and the food is inspired by African, Indian, and Mediterranean cuisine. I celebrated a special occasion here with my mom, and it’s one of our favorite meals that we’ve had at Disney World. And if you like wine, they have an extensive South African wine selection.
For something even fancier,
Victoria & Albert’s at the
Grand Floridian Resort is one of the most intimate dining experiences at Disney World. This restaurant is Victorian-themed and features two different tasting menus and an impressive selection of over 500 wines from 35 different regions. My sister got engaged at Victoria & Albert's and still raves about the food and amazing Cast Members there.
I also wanted to suggest a non-dining-related experience that I love for celebrating special occasions. And that’s watching one of the nighttime spectaculars from your own private boat on a
Magic Kingdom Fireworks Cruise. A Cast Member drives the boat, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the show! The cruise includes light snacks and soft drinks, but you’re welcome to bring additional treats and even champagne to set the mood! If you decide to go this route, note that glass containers aren’t allowed onboard, so transfer anything in glass to plastic or metal bottles.
Many of these experiences are extremely popular, so be sure to make reservations
as soon as your booking window opens. Disney Resort hotel guests can book 60 days ahead of check-in for their whole stay (up to 10 nights), and all other guests can make reservations 60 days in advance of each day.
I’m wishing you the most magical birthday ever at Disney World this October! And if you have any other questions, you’re always welcome at planDisney.
