Hi Jonathan! Welcome to planDisney, where a rag-tag band of Disney pals are always on standby to help with your next mission... or question!
Battle alert, Jonathan! You just launched me straight back to my childhood! I grew up watching Captain EO at the Magic Eye Theater in Disneyland, and it was one of those attractions my brother and I had to experience every visit. It didn't matter how many times we'd already seen Captain EO and his crew deliver their musical gift to the Evil Supreme Leader. We were always ready to answer the call and board the ship for one more adventure!
Unfortunately, this mission report comes with some less-than-galactic news. Captain EO was replaced by Honey, I Shrunk the Audience in 1998, and as of now, I haven't heard any transmission suggesting a return engagement. The former Magic Eye Theater, which was renamed the Tomorrowland Theater in 2015, is currently home to
Pixar Short Film Spotlight, a collection of charming Pixar shorts presented in a roughly 20-minute show. It's a great place to recharge your energy, cool off from the heat of the sun, and enjoy some heartwarming stories while taking a break from your
Tomorrowland adventures.
I know that's probably not the message you'd hope to receive from Captain EO's command center! For now, the attraction remains part of Disneyland history. Still, every time someone brings it up, I can't help but remember it... even if it does reveal exactly which decade we grew up in!
Who knows? Stranger things have happened in the Disney universe. Until then, we'll just have to keep the memory of those cosmic dance battles alive and continue sending out good vibes across the galaxy. After all, if Captain EO taught us anything, it's that a little music, a little light, and a lot of teamwork can transform almost anything!
Jonathan, if you'd like to join the fight against the Supreme Leader of unanswered Disney questions,
come back and see us anytime. My crew and I are standing by and ready for our next mission!
Sending out major love,
Kimberly
