Hi, if I buy a magic band plus for the kids in our party, and link it to my Disney Experience account when they are older can they be reassigned to a different account but the same person? Thank you in advance

Hi Elizabeth, and welcome to planDisney! I love how MagicBand+ (officially known as Disney Bands outside of the U.S.) makes everything so convenient, from opening your Disney Resort hotel room to scanning into the theme parks. My favorite thing about MagicBand+ is that they also put you right in the middle of the magic when they light up and vibrate to the nighttime spectaculars.

Now, let’s figure out how to get your little ones properly set up with their MagicBand+! When you purchase a MagicBand+, you can use your MyDisney account to link it to your profile or one you manage, such as your kid’s profile.

In the My Disney Experience app, go to ☰ in the lower right corner and then MagicBands & Cards under Account. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and press Link Your MagicBand or Card. Here you can scan your MagicBand+ and it’ll prompt you to choose which person you’d like to assign the band to. This can’t be changed, so double-check your selection!

While MagicBand+ can’t be reassigned to another profile, your kids can still use their bands when they’re old enough to have their own MyDisney account. When that time comes, you can invite them to create an account from their profile in your Family & Friends List.

When you view your Family & Friends List on the Disney World website, you’ll see Guests You Manage at the top of the page. Find the person who’s ready to take control of their profile and click Manage. Here you’ll see the option to invite them to sign in and plan on their own. When you press the Invite button, you’ll input their email address to send the invitation. Guests have to be 13 years or older to create a MyDisney account, so you won’t see this option on anyone’s profile who’s under that age. Once that’s done, they’ll have full control of their profile and their MagicBand+ will still be linked!

Since it sounds like you’re looking to buy MagicBand+ for your kids, they might have fun designing their own custom bands at D-Tech on Demand at Disney Springs. There are so many designs to choose from and they can even add their name! I’ve also seen customization kiosks at Tomorrowland Launch Depot in Magic Kingdom, although they were offline when I was there last month.

If you end up making a custom MagicBand+, keep in mind that it can take a couple of hours for the bands to be printed. If you’re at Disney Springs, I’d recommend making D-Tech your first stop and then shopping or eating while you wait.

I love the Disney-themed treats at Amorette’s Patisserie (they’re almost too pretty to eat!) and shopping at World of Disney, which is right next door. It has the largest collection of Disney merchandise on property, so it’s always a must-do when I’m at Disney Springs!

One last thing before I go, don’t miss the Fab 50 Character statues throughout the theme parks. There are some fun interactions with MagicBand+ that are sure to sprinkle a bit of pixie dust throughout your day!

I hope you have the most magical vacation at Disney World with your family! And if you have any other questions, we’d love to have you back at planDisney.
