Welcome Home, Marc!
I’m sure you’d rather be hearing that at
Walt Disney World, but I am so hopeful the borders will open soon. I know our planDisney Panelists who live in the United Kingdom are also anxious to return to the Most Magical Place on Earth!
Marc, you are in a bit of a frustrating predicament. The policy that was posted by the
Disney Parks Blog regarding customized
MagicBands and trip cancellation states that your credit card is charged when the order is placed, and that,
“once personalized, upgraded MagicBands cannot be returned, refunded or exchanged, even if the hotel reservation is canceled.” To add to this unpleasant answer I have for you, there is a bit more. Because some not so nice folks would make a resort reservation, pre-order MagicBands with the included discount, then cancel their resort reservation, all to get a discount on their MagicBands, the policy goes on to say that if the MagicBands have been personalized at the time you cancel the reservation, not only can you not return them or get a refund, but you will be charged the full non-discounted price. Unfortunately, good people are sometimes put in a bad spot because of the things dishonest people do.
I’m sure this is not welcome news. If this were to happen to someone in the United States, they would at least have the MagicBands they paid for mailed to their home to use for their next trip. Since MagicBands are not shipped internationally, you aren’t able to receive yours.
Marc, first I would check your credit card statement to see if you were charged and if there was any refund. While this is the official policy, I have heard from other Guests in the United States who were not charged. It may depend on how late the trip was canceled. If the MagicBands for your group were physically produced and ready and then the trip was canceled, it is likely you were charged the full amount. If you canceled before they were produced, you may have received a refund despite the official policy.
If it does appear you were fully charged, my only other suggestion would be to
contact Guest Services via email. At
planDisney, we are real Disney Guests just like you, who live around the US and around the world here to answer trip planning questions, but we are not official Cast Members, so I unfortunately, don’t have the power to fix your situation. You could also try contacting
Disney Vacation Club Member Services to see if they can assist you.
I hope you can get this situation solved to your satisfaction, Marc, and that our friends from the UK will be visiting us real soon!
