Hello, I am booked on the Disney Wonder for a 7 night cruise to Alaska over the 4th of July week. I read that there are typically no fireworks at sea in Alaska, does that apply for 4th of July? Also are there any formal nights?

Well ahoy there Stephen, and welcome aboard planDisney!

Having spent some time living and working on board the classic wanderer of the Pacific - the Disney Wonder as she sailed the western shores up to Alaska during the summer months, you can imagine how many frequent seafarers or even Castaway Club members are surprised to discover that Disney Cruise Line's signature Pirate Night Deck Party and its accompanying fireworks won't be experienced on their voyages in this very special region. As you might know, local regulations prohibit fireworks launched from the fleet in certain geographic areas especially for the way they may affect residents or even the wildlife, and this may continue to apply even on holidays like the 4th of July; in my years as a seasoned sailor in Alaskan waters, I have never experienced fireworks being permitted on board during these itineraries.

For your 7-Night Alaskan Cruise from Vancouver, it does look like you'll be spending the holiday in Skagway which tends to decorate for the occasion and may have some festivities in store for guests as they wander about the town before your later All Aboard time in the evening. (In my experience, though I've witnessed fireworks above Juneau, I wouldn't necessarily count on the Disney Wonder being able to swiftly sail over there in time to be able to witness these!) That said, looking ahead at the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App on Embarkation Day and ensuring that it is refreshed and updated after you board in Vancouver will be a great way to look ahead and not only confirm when an evening for suggested Formal attire may take place, but also see whether any themed festivities may be taking place on board.

As with anything on Disney Cruise Line and its fleet, onboard offerings are subject to change without prior notice even right up to your voyage and can never be guaranteed, but in the past I've experienced special musical performances, crafts and activities, special outfits for our Character pals and even a different menu for the evening, and if you're really keen on knowing these offerings in advance this is something I'd recommend heading to the Crew Members at the Guest Services Desk for. I hope that this helps Stephen, and in the meantime I invite you to come back to us here at planDisney for any other tips or advice ahead of your ocean adventuring!

Here's to a spectacular sailing this summer on a ship I called home!
