We are arriving on 2/22 and had planned to go to MK on 2/23. I just learned the princess half marathon is that day. Will buses be able to get us to MK for rope drop, or will the marathon completely block entrance?

    Hello Aime,

Welcome to planDisney! How exciting that your magical visit to Magic Kingdom is coming up soon! I've done some checking for you, and have the scoop for your rope-drop plans on runDisney Princess Half Marathon day.

Because the half marathon begins and ends at EPCOT, there is a fair amount of race related congestion concentrated there. Spectator viewing from Magic Kingdom on 2/23 is scheduled from 5:20 am - 7:30 am that day. Also, some roads will likely still be closed when trying to navigate to the parks early, so it will definitely take you longer than normal. But I do want to assure you that they will be running the Disney Transportation buses! And by leaving the driving to a Cast Member, they can handle any navigating around road closures via alternative routes if needed.

I checked in with a couple of my planDisney panelist friends who often participate in runDisney event weekends. They advised planning on around 1 hour of travel time in order to get to Magic Kingdom rope drop that day. I checked the Disney World park calendar, and as a Disney Resort guest your Early Entry hours at Magic Kingdom will begin at 8:30 a.m.

I hope this helps you plan your magical day. Have a wonderful time!

    See ya' real soon,
    Tami
