Hi there, Katie! I've always admired the amazing running ability of Dash, the oldest son from The Incredibles. It sounds like you have a little superhero runner on your hands, too!
My son and I are big
runDisney fans, and he's done a few runDisney Kids Races himself, including the 400-Meter Dash when he was eight (which they no longer have), and the One Mile Run when he was nine and ten. I understand that the 100-Meter Dash may not seem enough of a challenge, especially if your little tyke is a sprinter. If he's interested in the 200-Meter Dash, then my suggestion would be to
email runDisney and let them know.
If you think he can handle the One Mile Run, then I say sign him up! Keep in mind that parents are welcome to run or walk alongside their child during this race (I have to admit that I couldn't keep up with my son this yEAR, and he blew right by me). If I had to guess, I'd say the majority of the kids are in the 7-12 age range, but there are always younger Mouseketeers out there. I looked up the race results from the 2018 runDisney Wine & Dine Kids One Mile Run. Out of the 500 kids that participated, 24 were four-year-olds (and I even counted a few three-year-olds)! The only drawback is the One Mile Run is usually at 1:00 PM when the sun and heat are at their peak, so make sure to hydrate before and after the race. My son and I also practice a few weeks beforehand on a cul de sac in our neighborhood.
I hope this helps you make your decision, Katie! Enjoy the
Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, and please come back and see us if you need any more advice!
