My 3 yr. old is terrified of fireworks & a must do of mine is to be at the castle at least one night. Any tips on how to get him to enjoy it & not be so afraid?

In my experience, most children with fireworks fears are primarily afraid of the noise. A popular solution to this problem is to have the child wear earplugs or noise canceling headphones. Earplugs can be found at most drugstores for less than $5.00, but sometimes children find them uncomfortable or ineffective. Noise canceling headphones are generally more effective and more comfortable, but a good pair often costs more than $100. If these weren't in your budget, perhaps you could find a friend who already has a pair and would be willing to lend them to you.

Another helpful thing you might do is desensitize your child by making him or her as familiar with fireworks as possible. I would find a video recording that has fireworks in it. Put it on for your child at a low volume until it becomes comfortable to watch. You could then progressive increase the volume on the TV.

If your child is still not able to cope with fireworks nearby, perhaps a compromise solution would be to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from a slightly removed location such as the beach at the Polynesian hotel.

    Good luck!
