Hi Peter!
Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I'm so excited to hEAR that you are making the
Walt Disney World 5K a family affair and really getting everyone involved!
One of my favorite parts of runDisney events is the costumes because dressing up really is part of the fun! I would try to use this as a form of motivation. I find kiddos usually are more engaged when they feel like they are in charge of the situation so put the costume planning in their hands! Maybe sit on Pinterest together and look up running ideas for DIY costumes. ncourage them that at the end of the week if they have completed their training that you'll sit down as a family and work on your costumes together! Better yet let them pick what Dad will wear, give them complete control and rock whatever tutu they likely put you in!
Another idea is create a fun countdown to race weekend! With it being so close to Christmas, finding a Disney themed advent calendar should be pretty easy, but instead of a Christmas countdown make it a countdown to Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend! To keep them focused on running maybe add the stipulation they can't open that "door" until after their run for the day.
Ultimately, your daughters stamina and ability to complete a 5K will probably surprise you! Continue to remember that it's for an amazing experience and whether or not they are crawling the last half mile, you'll be doing it together as a family. Please come back and let us know if you have any other questions before the Walt Disney World 5K!
