My 3 year-old is very persistent that she's going splash mountain. She does meet the height requirment but I'm a little nervous about her going on it. Husband's family says she'll be fine but I've never been on. What's your opinion of it?

Hi, Monica!  This is a really difficult question, and you really are the best person to come up with an answer!  I'll tell you my experience with three daughters, and we'll see if it helps you at all.

My oldest daughter, who is now nearly 18, is what we call a ride weenie.  She has never liked thrill rides, roller coasters, or anything too scary.  She did Splash Mountain once when she was about 7, and has not been back on since, except one other time when she was bullied into it by a younger sister.  I don't think she will ever go again.

My eight year old will try something once, and then decide whether she likes it or not.  Splash Mountain is one of her very favorite rides, and she started riding when she was about five.  She was tall enough earlier, but being mom to the ride weenie made me cautious about allowing her to try it too soon.

Then there is my super adventurous four year old.  Her first ride on Splash Mountain was just before her fourth birthday this year, and I was terrified!  Her uncle had just gotten home from Iraq, and he was anxious to go on the ride, so I think his enthusiasm made her even more determined to go.  She cannot wait until we go back and she can ride again!  She loved every second of the ride, and it's all she talked about for a few weeks after - telling everyone what a big girl she was to ride the big ride.

My feeling is if it's something she wants to do, she will probably be fine, but you know her better than anyone.  Don't bow to in-law pressure - make the decision based on how well you know your daughter.
