Ahoy there, Tina,
Welcome aboard planDisney, where we have all hands on deck to help you create magic on the high seas! I’m so glad that you are interested in participating in the
Castaway Cay 5k. It is a perfect way to start your day in paradise.
I have good news for you, Tina! The Castaway Cay 5k is on flat and paved surfaces for the duration of the course which shouldn’t give a stroller any problems. There is no need to sign up for the Castaway 5k prior to the event. When you debark the ship at
Disney Castaway Cay, you will be free to begin the run at your leisure. The 5k begins near the bike rental information booth. The course is well-marked so just follow the signage. At the end of the course, which is right back to where you started, you can request your finisher’s medal and even request one for your little “runner.”
I have a few tips to keep in mind, Tina, to have the most enjoyable experience running the 5k especially if you are pushing a little one in a stroller. I recommend you run earlier in the day since it is usually warm and sunny on Castaway Cay and don’t forget to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and even a hat since the sun shines brightly and there isn’t much shade on the course. There is water available at a few points along the course, but I usually bring along a water bottle. One of the landmarks you pass on the course is the Observation Tower and I encourage you to make a quick detour up the steps (you will need to leave the stroller at the bottom) so you can get a bird’s eye view of the island. And my best tip is to make sure you plan to grab some celebratory ice cream at Cookie’s BBQ before you head to your next destination on Castaway Cay.
As you continue to plan your Disney cruise vacation, please
set sail back to us here at planDisney. where we hope to make everything smooth sailing for your upcoming
Disney Cruise Line vacation!
Wishing you magical memories on your run,
Shannon
