Hi Barbara! I am the mom of a super-picky eleven year old, so I feel your pain! Luckily, Disney World is very accommodating of picky eaters! Even though your thirteen-year-old is considered an "adult" at Disney restaurants, he or she may order from the children's menu if the foods there are more appealing. If a particular restaurant doesn't have your child's favorite foods on the adult or kiddie menus, don't hesitate to ask for them anyway. My son loves grilled cheese sandwiches, and he is able to order one at many Disney restaurants, even if they aren't listed on the menu:
'Ohana brought him an adult-sized portion of grilled cheese and french fries, and the
Yak & Yeti made him a grilled cheese on a hamburger bun. If your picky eater loves pizza, you'll want to eat at
Via Napoli and the
Wolfgang Puck Cafe. Both of those restaurants, as well as many others at Disney, are happy to prepare pizzas or other foods without sauces or certain ingredients. Buffets are also good dining choices for picky eaters. Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace have so many options; there's something for everyone.
The only two restaurants we've encountered at Disney that weren't able to prepare a grilled cheese or other special meal for my son were Teppan Edo and La Hacienda de San Angel. If your picky eater doesn't like Japanese hibachi meals or Mexican food, you may want to avoid those restaurants, or plan to pick up dinner for your child somewhere else before you dine there.
Come visit me again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! I'm happy to help!
