Welcome aboard, Jessica! My daughter was in the same boat as your daughter last year - pun totally intended! She was almost 11 and really wanted to try out Edge, the tween club onboard. She loves the Oceaneer Club and Lab, but was feeling ready for a little more grown-up fun with the tweens.
I'm really happy to tell you that although
Edge is for ages 11-14, they are happy to allow a ten year-old who is close to 11 to attend, with signed parental consent. Upper age limits are strictly enforced, however. When we arrived during Open House that first day onboard to chat with the counselors, they already had a list of the 10 year-olds onboard who might be stopping by with this question. Just know that kids in Edge do not need to have a parent sign them out like at the Club and Lab, so you'll need to talk with your daughter about your family's own rules for leaving Edge on her own or with new friends. We told my daughter that we wanted her to either head straight to the stateroom or straight to the Club or Lab to check in if she was leaving Edge alone. Later in the cruises, when she had made some new friends, we thought it was okay if the girls wanted to go have ice cream or snacks around the ship together, as long as she checked in with us. She had the best time in Edge!
If your daughter has a mobile device, be sure that you all download the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App before you arrive at port. Besides the maps, menus and event schedule, there is also a free texting feature that works onboard the ship, so you can keep in touch. Plus, if she's anything like my daughter, she'll be thrilled that it includes cute Disney emojis to use in the texts!
Have fun as you prep for your cruise, and stop back with any other questions, Jessica! We're happy to help!
