My 8 year old granddaughter and I are taking a 4 night cruise in dec 2013. I am wondering about extra costs on board. What activities require an additional charge: spa, fitness area? Do they have character meals--eating with Snow White etc?

Welcome back Carol! A four-night cruise with Disney is such a great time to try out their amazing ship and activities! Your granddaughter is certainly lucky to get to sail with you!

Onboard, you will find extra costs for just a few activities, like the spa treatments, Adult Exclusive Dining, wine and other drink tastings, alcoholic beverages, hair braiding, and of course the amazing Port Adventures. The fitness area is included as are the Youth Clubs, so no need to budget extra for those!

Also, keep in mind the traditional tips for the service team. These can be paid ahead of time or settled on your last night onboard. Expect to tip per person (including children):

Dining Server: $4 per person per day
Assistant Server: $3 per person per day
Head Server: $1 per person per day
Stateroom Host/Hostess: $4 per person per day

Of course you are always welcome to add an additional amount if your service team really goes above and beyond for you (which I guarantee they will on any Disney ship)!

One last thing to budget for is the shopping onboard. The stores are amazing and full of some really unique Disney Cruise Line items, of which I'm sure there will be a few must-haves!

We love to pre-purchase Disney gift cards at our local grocery store when they offer extra fuel rewards on gift cards. Then we save on our gas and have Disney cards ready for our next cruise. It helps spread out the costs and saves us money at the same time!

Your four-night sailing will not have a character meal, as those are only on sailings of six nights or longer. But, there will be plenty of character meet n' greets every day and night, so you won't miss out on those!

Have fun continuing to plan, Carol!
