Are the wrist bands necessary to go to the park? I want to order them but I’m extremely unfamiliar with all of this. This is our first family to Disney and I’m not sure what else I need to do. I bought and reserved our tickets to the parks. Thank you!

Hello there, Kristin! Welcome to planDisney! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out and ask your wonderful Walt Disney World Resort vacation question!

MagicBands are all-in-one devices that connect you to all of your Walt Disney World Resort vacation plans! These wristbands are water-proof and come in a variety of designs that range from solid colors all the way to unique Disney Character designs. With your MagicBand, you can do such tasks as unlocking the door to your Disney Resort hotel room, enter the theme parks and water parks, connect Disney PhotoPass images to your account, charge purchases to your Disney Resort hotel room, and so much more!

Guests are not required to purchase a MagicBand in order to access these perks, though! With the all-new Disney MagicMobile Service, Guests can now experience the convenience of a MagicBand right from their smart device! All you will need to do is download the My Disney Experience app and set up your family’s Disney MagicMobile passes. You will then be able to add your Disney MagicMobile pass to the Wallet app on your smart device and simply hold your device near an access point to access entitlements quickly and efficiently!

However, if you do prefer to purchase MagicBands for your family, you are also welcome to do so! Guests staying with the Disney Resorts Collection actually receive a pre-arrival discount on select MagicBand designs if they place their order 6 days before their arrival date. Personally, I still love having a MagicBand since it means I don’t have to carry around a smart device if I don’t want to! This is perfect whenever I visit the pool at my Disney Resort hotel or one of the water parks!

Best of luck as you continue to plan for your vacation to Walt Disney World Resort this August! Please let us know if we can provide any additional information along the way!
