In the works of planning WDW June 2022. We have visited a few times, but so much has changed. My first step always is my flights, but being in this age of COVID, what do you recommend booking first, park tickets or lodging. I am kinda stumped. :(

Hi there, Alyse! Welcome back to planDisney! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach back out and ask another excellent Walt Disney World Resort vacation question!

Planning a vacation to Walt Disney World Resort is an incredibly personal process and varies based on the individual! In my experience, this can take the form of exclusively booking vacation packages to individually reserving every experience based on personal preference.

While some of the events over the last year have changed the way my own family plans our visits, it has remained mostly the same! Typically, we book out Disney Resort hotel prior to planning any other parts of our vacation. To me, the Disney Resort hotel you are staying at really sets the “tone” for your whole stay. So, with this in mind, I try to find the dates that provide me with the availability at want at the price point I am looking for.

From here, we decide on exactly how many days we would like to spend in the theme parks. This varies based on the type of trip we are taking and if there are any “must-dos” inside of the parks. Keep in mind, you will need to make theme park reservations through the Disney Park Pass System for your upcoming stay once you have purchased your theme park tickets. Outside of holidays, it is not terribly difficult to make these reservations so there is not a huge rush to get this done in the vacation planning process.

Since flight prices are the most likely to change and the most difficult to cancel, I tend to do this last in my own vacation planning process. With current concerns over safety, this placement has become even more important to me. Additionally, I tend to find that airfare is the cheapest approximately two to one month prior to our travel dates, though, this may vary based on your location.

I hope this gives you some insight into planning your own Walt Disney World Resort vacation! Please let us know if we can answer other questions for you!
