Hi Carol! Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
My husband and I were just in the same situation that you describe -- we were visiting
Magic Kingdom Park on an evening last week when
Disney After Hours was taking place but we were not attending the event. We chose to view
Happily Ever After from the end of Main Street, U.S.A. that is closest to the train station so that we could dash out right after the show. We stood in the area near the
Main Street Confectionery. I would say the day we visited wasn't extremely busy overall, and we did not notice any appreciable increase in crowds coming in for the event.
Our plan to exit the park ahead of the majority of other Guests worked well. We even stopped for a
Disney PhotoPass photo on our way out and still found ourselves among the first Guests waiting to board a bus back to our
Disney Resort Hotel. If you prefer to linger a bit, you will be able to browse the shops along Main Street, U.S.A. or enjoy a treat from the
Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. Guests with tickets for Disney After Hours will be issued wristbands and will need to show them to be allowed to venture beyond Main Street, U.S.A. and access the attractions.
I hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions as you
plan your Walt Disney World Resort vacation. Enjoy your stay!
