Hi I was wondering if Spirit of Aloha is appropriate for a two year old. I would like to make reservations for May. I'm a little hesitant, although he generally does well in restaurants, he's never been in one for two hrs. Don't want him to bother others

    Amy,

A few years ago I took my then 2-year old (along with her 4-year old sister) daughter to this show. She was a bit under the weather, overcoming a mild cold, and it was the day we arrived, so she was tired from travel. Nevertheless, she seemed to enjoy it.

As a matter of fact, this might be a good alternative for your son. There are a lot of distractions, but the show is not some dinner theater that requires him to sit in complete silence to avoid disturbing others. He will even get a chance to go on stage with the other children for a hula dance at the end. My kids were a bit too skittish at that age to enjoy that part, but most kids find it to be a real treat. When we go back, my kids will surely enjoy that part more.

A few pointers for you and your son.

Prepare for a significant wait in the patio area outside the restaurant before you get seated. Everyone is seated at the same time, so you can end up standing around that area with little to nothing to do for a good 20 minutes. Bring something to keep him occupied.

Consider what seat to give him at your table. Make sure to optimize his view of the stage, but more importantly be aware of where the servers will be walking. Because they serve everyone at once, the walkways can be very busy between courses.

I would not overly worry about him being a distraction to others. This is far from a serene dining experience, and he may even thrive in the festive glow of the islands!

Have a magical (and delicious) vacation!
