Just wondering about the infamous grapefruit cake from Brown Derby. I love grapefruit & want to try this-but we won't be able to make it there this trip. We are celebrating an anniversary while there-is there any way to order this cake for take out?

I am a big citrus fan. The Brown Derby grapefruit cake is one of my favorite desserts in all of WDW -- very light, with just the right combination of tart and sweet, plus that yuuuummmy cream cheese frosting.

You don't have to have an entire meal to dine at the Brown Derby. If the crowds are light (likely near park closing time) you can just go up and ask to be seated for dessert. This way you can enjoy the cake in relaxing atmosphere with a cup of coffee or, my preference, champagne :-). However, if that doesn't work out, you can ask at the podium if it would be possible for them to box up a slice or two of cake for you to take to go. Again, if it's not too busy, they will likely be able to accommodate you.

You should also take a peek into the Starring Rolls Cafe right next to the Brown Derby. They sometimes have the cake available there or can sneak into the Derby kitchen to grab a slice for you.

If you just can't wait to try the grapefruit cake, the recipe is readily available, both in Disney cookbooks and online. If you Google "Brown Derby Grapefruit Cake Recipe," you'll come up with several hits. This recipe is so popular, that they even have little brown-derby-shaped recipe cards that they pass out at the restaurant. So thoughtful!

Have a wonderful anniversary at WDW!
