I was just wondering if food substitutions are available at Disney World Restaurants. Example: Be Our Guest (shrimp and scallops- substitute for shrimp no scallops) or instead of fries with a meal substitute with a side salad. Thank you.

Hi, Alicia!  In my experience, the possibility of doing this depends on the restaurant and the way the meal is prepared.  In some cases, I have seen them substitute a salad for fries or a piece of fruit or yogurt for dessert.  I personally have gotten the shrimp and scallops with puff pastry without the shrimp - all scallops - so I know it's possible there.

Some meals, however, are cooked in such a way that the prep work has already included the food item you may not want.  In cases such as those, they can't make any changes to the meal.  If you are on the dining plan, there are also instances where they won't make substitutes for things like dessert.

It never hurts to ask, just be prepared for your answers to vary, again, based on what you're ordering and the restaurant's ability to provide the requested substitute.  Hopefully, you'll be pleasantly surprised with most of your meals!

    Have a great vacation!
