Greetings, Scott, and welcome to planDisney! I'm so sorry to hear that you're having difficulty securing the reservation you're looking for at
Space 220 Restaurant. I'm happy to help you figure out your options.
Space 220, located inside
EPCOT, is such a unique restaurant with theming to make you feel like you're dining in space. It even involves a simulated experience to get you there and features
innovative menu items to match the theme for a completely immersive experience. All of this combined makes Space 220 a very popular restaurant, and securing a reservation can be tricky, especially during busier times.
I know it can be frustrating to find a reservation for more people than are in your party when there's no availability for the number of people you need. This happens because Disney's reservation system is designed to seat Guests efficiently. A party of three or four will be seated at a table designed for four Guests. A party of one or two will be seated at a table designed for two Guests. When you see a reservation available for parties of three but not two, this means they've filled all available reservations for tables of two, but they still have tables left that can seat three or four. The system won't accept a reservation for two to be assigned to a table that can seat up to four. Therefore, it will show no availability for the smaller party while availability still exists for the larger one.
Understanding the why behind what you're seeing doesn't help you score that reservation, though, so I have some tips for you that will hopefully put you over the moon. If I were you, I'd go ahead and secure the reservation for three and keep trying to modify it down to two. I've had great success with this, especially as the date draws near. If that doesn't work out for you, I recommend checking with Guest Services at least a couple of hours before your reservation to see if they can help you get the reservation modified. I say this because you can cancel the reservation without penalty up to two hours prior. Past that timeframe,
there is a per person fee for canceling, so it's best to get your reservation firmed up at least two hours in advance.
Scott, I hope this has been helpful to you and that you get the reservation that's out of this world. Please visit us again with any other planning questions.
Let your dreams guide you!
