Why can you never get first seating at dinner? Will not eat late with family.

    Ahoy Keith!
Welcome to the Moms Panel!  First seating is popular among Disney Cruise Line Guests because many families with young children request this seating when they book their cruise.  I know you may not normally eat at 8:15pm at home, but your vacation schedule may vary from your daily routine.  Some advantages to second seating is that it gives you a little extra time to enjoy your afternoon activities and a late afternoon snack.  Also, second seating Guests are scheduled to see the first show nightly at 6:15pm while first seating Guests see the 8:30pm show which may work better for your crew!  If you have children between the ages of 3 and 12, there is also a "Dine & Play" option for second seating Guests.  This means your dining servers will expedite your kiddos meals so when the youth counselors arrive in the main dining rooms around 9:15pm they are free to go enjoy the Oceaneer Club and Lab while you finish your meal.
If I haven't changed your mind about experiencing second seating, you can call Disney Cruise Line at (800) 951-3523 to be put on the first seating wait list.  Guests do cancel cruises or switch their seating times so there is a chance you could move up.  If not, there will be directions on how to change your seating time upon boarding on the front of your first cruise newsletter (The Personal Navigator).  I would make this your first "to do" on embarkation day to better your chances of getting it switched.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Keith!  If I can help you further, please let me know!
    Have a magical day!
