What do I do with my backpack while on the waterslides, castaway creek, etc? I know there are lockers but won't we want to access our water bottles, towels, etc. Is there a safe place to leave them at the entrance to these things?

In my family we always get a locker at the water parks. That's where we put valuables like our cameras, watches and wallets. After that, we find a lounge chair in a nice shady spot and dump everything else. There is no dedicated place near each ride to leave items. Often at the water parks, the entrance to the slide/ride is quite a distance from where you end up, so something like that wouldn't really be practical.

Of course you have to assess your own comfort level with leaving items out. But I've had good luck leaving easily replaceable items like towels, sunscreen, water bottles, flip flops, and magazines right there on our chair in the park. We are often away from the chair for an hour at a time and have never had any problems with this method. My observation is that most other guests do something similar.
