Hello! We've been to Disney World but this year we're excited to head there for New Year's!! We're really hoping to watch some fire works at Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Can you give me some tips and times for this coming December? Thanks!!

Welcome back to planDisney Ashley! Thanks for reaching out with your great question. I'm excited to help you! How wonderful that you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World Resort! You’re sure to create some amazing memories at The Most Magical Place on Earth!

Planning a New Year's Eve visit to Disney World is a magical way to ring in the new year, but it requires strategic planning since it's one of the busiest times of the year. My husband and I were at both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT for New Year's Eve in 2021 and though both parks get busy, it is definitely enjoyable!

Magic Kingdom Park tends to get very busy on New Year's Eve, with guests arriving early and staying all day. Expect a high energy vibe, with festive decorations, and holiday music setting the tone. Magic Kingdom’s New Year’s Eve special fireworks show is one of the most spectacular displays of the year! It typically happens on both December 30th and 31st at midnight, giving you two chances to experience it. The show includes classic Disney music and characters projected onto Cinderella Castle, with fireworks lighting up the sky all around the park. It is my absolute favorite!

Throughout the evening, there are usually DJ dance parties in Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and other locations, creating a fun party atmosphere. Characters also make special appearances in their holiday outfits. Which makes for great PhotoPass moments! If you want to enjoy a special meal, there are holiday themed dining experiences available, but reservations are highly recommended due to demand.

EPCOT is also incredibly popular for New Year’s Eve but tends to feel more spread out, given the size of the park and World Showcase. The energy here is vibrant, with cultural celebrations taking place in each pavilion. EPCOT also has an incredible fireworks show on new Years Eve. The show often takes place over World Showcase Lagoon and is accompanied by inspiring music and lights. One of the unique aspects of EPCOT is the international celebrations in the World Showcase pavilions. Each pavilion represents its country’s traditions for the new year, with live music, performances, and cultural experiences. My husband and I attended a silent party in the England Pavilion that we still talk about to this day because of how much fun we had! Italy also had an amazing DJ!

EPCOT’s World Showcase offers numerous dining options, including special New Year’s Eve dining experiences. It’s a great opportunity to indulge in a variety of global cuisines, and reservations are highly recommended here as well.

Both parks offer incredible experiences, but Magic Kingdom is more family oriented, while EPCOT tends to have a more festive, party-like atmosphere for adults.

I hope this information helps you prepare for an exciting visit to Walt Disney World Resort, Ashley! Thank you again for visiting planDisney. We'll see ya real soon!
