We will be at WDW soon with a party of 9. Included is a mother in law who has recently had hip replacement. She is now walking with a cane but I worry that WDW might get the better of her with the walking. What are our options to her get more mobile?

    Hi Arlene!

Disney does a wonderful job at accommodating guests with all types of mobility issues, from providing wheelchairs and scooters for rental to allowing for guests to use entrances which are less taxing.  My best suggestion for you would be to rent a scooter.  This will allow her to transfer to attractions with ease and enjoy the best of the parks without putting too much tax on her new hip.

You are able to rent them for a cost of $70 per day with $20 refundable deposit. You can pick one up at the stroller/wheelchair rental area at each of the major theme parks and Downtown Disney (Wheelchairs nor ECV's are available for rent at the water parks). Should your ECV require maintenance during a park visit, you will be given one on the spot. ECV's are also not available at the resorts, and at value resorts, there is a great deal of walking involved to access many areas.

I recommend you rent from an outside vendor such as Walker Mobility or Buena Vista Scooters. They will deliver the ECV to your resort room, and have pricing that covers length of stay. These ECV's can work with variable speed settings, and are great to have on hand at Disney's expansive resorts.

Hope this helps you plan a magical vacation!
