WDW in May & Mom celebrates her 60th bday in July.I'd like to surprise her with a cake or something at dinner one night. Which restaurant do you recommend for a bday: Chef Mickeys, Hoop Dee Doo, CRT Lunch, Crystal Palace, 1900 or Whispering Canyon?

Happy birthday to Mom! (And isn't she lucky to have such a thoughtful daughter.)

If you'd like to have a cake sent to any of the WDW restaurants, call the Cake Hotline at 407-827-CAKE. They can arrange something special.

As for the restaurant choice ... Any of the options you mention would be great, depending on you mom's personality. If she is a big fan of the classic Disney characters the Chef Mickey's is great. Or if she likes the Pooh characters, then Crystal Palace is fun. However, unless she really loves those characters, I might steer away from those restaurants for an adult's birthday. While I do love those venues for child's birthday, to me an adult party at a buffet is a bit less special. Maybe that's the harried mom in me, but on my own birthday I don't want to work to go get my own food (I do lots of that at home), but I want someone to bring it to me. This would also eliminate the 1900 Park Fare buffet.

Your remaining three choices are all regular table service meals with menus. If moms wants to feel like a princess, then of course the Castle is the place to be.

The Hoop Dee Doo and Whispering Canyon are both big favorites of mine. They have a similar Western cowboy sort of feel to them, but with a humorous twist. Either one is good rollicking fun for a party, you just have to decide if you want a show along with the meal, or just the meal.

I personally would choose the HDDR. I took my own 60-something parents there earlier this year and they got a big kick out of it.
