Hi! We'll be in WDW with lots of family in May 2013. My son's birthday is the following week but we want to celebrate with the whole group. Is there free picnic/dining area that I can bring a Disney provided cake to, to share with everyone?

    Hi Nina,

I'm not sure if you're looking for a space inside or outside of a theme park.

There's no specific picnic area in either location, but there are certainly ways to improvise. Inside the theme parks, you're welcome to gather at any counter service location to enjoy your own food. This works particularly well at counter service venues with outdoor seating. For example, there are lots of small tables at a landing near the Plaza restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. There are good outdoor seating areas in the UK pavilion at Epcot and near the Flame Tree BBQ at the Animal Kingdom.

As for outside the parks, most of the resorts have a playground, pool or beach area. If you're staying at one of the hotels, you're welcome to invite guests to join you there for a visit. I'd just be sure not to have your party overwhelm the space of other WDW visitors.

I hope you and you birthday boy have a magical WDW vacation.
