We are going to WDW the last Sat & Sun of January. There is plenty of park availability but no ADRs for the places we want to eat. Other than looking every day for openings - what's the best way to get ADRs in the parks? Is walk-up an option?

    Amy,

Thanks for the question to planDisney!

It is true that Advanced Dining Reservations can get snapped up rather quickly, and when you don’t have one it can make things a bit more uncertain. But don’t lose hope if you don’t have every reservation you had dreamed of, there are still ways to try to get into that special meal. I have four suggestions to improve your chances of dining bliss at Walt Disney World.

    • Keep Checking. Continue to check on the website right up to your arrival day to see if there have been any openings. Often people will cancel their reservations due to last-minute plan changes. Also, Disney might add a bit more capacity at a restaurant as they get closer to the date.
    • Let your Fingers do the walking. Use the My Disney Experience App to join the walk-up list for that dream restaurant. The sooner you get on the list, the better your chance of getting a table.
    • Walk right up. Even after joining the walk-up list via the app, visit the front desk of the restaurant. They can give you a good idea of the real situation, and if the wait time will be longer or shorter than hoped.
    • Have a backup plan. If after following these steps it seems like dining at that restaurant is not going to happen, don’t let it ruin your day. Have an alternate plan in place. If I am at the EPCOT World Showcase I know that the Tangierine Café is nearby with wonderful options. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park I rush to Flame Tree Barbecue for its great food and scenic seating areas. Wherever you are, there is always some great new discovery waiting to be found.

I hope that this helps. If you want me to offer some specific substitution suggestions, write me back and I will give you some sure-fire destinations that will make for a perfect meal.

      Have a Magical Vacation!
