Hi! I will be in WDW with my kids ages 7 and 6 on my own for 2 days while dad is in a conference, wondering what is the park with more rides that the three of us can ride together or would Festival of the arts activities be better?

    Hi Sofia!

Thanks for bringing this question to planDisney! Let’s go over some options for a fun mom and kids day out!

I’ve done solo days at Disney with two kids a few times now, and I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly things went. The great news is that a lot of the attractions in the parks fit 3 across! In fact, it’s actually easier to go over which attractions don’t fit 3 across.

It’s good to note that kids 7 and older are allowed to go in their own ride vehicle if they’re up for it. My oldest guy is still a little too nervous to do that for the most part, but he happily jumped in his own ride vehicle on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom and Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios. So you can definitely see what your oldest is up for!

Overall, Magic Kingdom will have the most attractions to ride if that’s your priority. The rides that do not fit 3 across in that park include: Astro Orbiter (which is currently closed until summer 2025), Barnstormer, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, and TRON. Rides like Dumbo and Magic Carpets can also get a little snug with 3 across.

TIP: If you decide to go on Tomorrowland Speedway, ask the Cast Member for the special flag that will allow you to go around twice. That way both of your kiddos can drive!

At Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog Dash, and Smugglers Run do not sit 3 across. We were able to enjoy a few rides, but we focused a lot on shows during our Hollywood Studios day with just the 3 of us. The Frozen Sing-Along was a huge hit with my boys. They thought it was hilarious and loved the “snow” at the end!

At Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest is the only ride that doesn’t sit 3 across. On Flight of Passage, everyone technically sits in their own ride vehicle, but you’re right next to each other. Animal Kingdom doesn’t have many rides overall, but it has lots of other fun experiences that make up for that! My kids love The Animation Experience. And getting their Wilderness Explorers badge is always a must-do.

Finally, let’s chat about Epcot. The only ride there that doesn’t sit 3 across is Guardians of the Galaxy. And between the play areas, KidCot Fun Stops, and Festival of the Arts, I think you’re onto something when considering Epcot!

I just got home from visiting Epcot for the Festival of the Arts, and I’m not sure how many times I thought to myself, “My boys would LOVE this!” There are so many fun activities and lots of treats

If your kids are anything like mine, the Paint by Numbers Mural, chalk art, artsy photo ops, Figment scavenger hunt, and Artist Palette chocolate chip cookie from Refreshment Outpost will be right up their alley. There’s even a daily Animation Academy during the festival similar to The Animation Experience that my boys love at Animal Kingdom.

One thing I’ve found during solo park days with my kids is that those extra experiences go a long way in keeping everyone happy. Rides are always fun, but focusing more on the extra experiences makes for a much more laid-back day.

No matter which park you pick, I know you’ll have a great day! Have so much fun!
