We are going to WDW (for the first time with our children) in mid October with my 2 year old DD and my 4 year old DS. Is it a good idea to do the Mickey's not so scary Halloween party? I am not sure what it entails. Thanks for your help. Jackie

    Jackie,

If your budget allows, then I would definitely go to the Halloween party!  It is a LOT of fun and we frequently plan fall vacations around it so that we are able to attend.

My daughters are similar in age to your children and they have a great time.  We try to dress up as a family, and you will see many other adults in costume as well, but if you'd rather not that's perfectly fine as well.  Every guest (even grown ups!) gets a treat bag when you enter the park, and there are treat stations set up throughout the Magic Kingdom.  Our favorite path is the walkway between Toontown and Space Mountain, where you'll find lots of less-common characters waiting to greet you.

There is also a special Boo-To-You parade twice a night (the later parade is less crowded), and special fireworks.  Both are very fun!  The villains do walk in the parade, so if your children are easily frightened you might not want to be in the front row.  My girls have never been bothered.  Throughout the park your favorite characters will be in their halloween costumes, which makes for very cute pictures that you can't get any other time.  And this is also a rare opportunity to get a picture with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - you can't find them all together very often!

There are special phot ops set up - last year my girls got their pictures taken in front of Cinderellas carriage, with pumpkins scattered about.  It was beautiful!  There are also very fun dance parties in a couple of locations, where the kids literally boogied 'till they dropped...and then got back up and did it again!

All of this, and the ride lines are usually shorter as well!  It's a don't-miss for our family, and I highly recommend it.  Just be sure to wear cool and non-restrictive costumes.  Big wings don't' work well here, and warm costumes are likely to be too hot for October in Florida.

    Have a fantastic first trip!
