Hi there... are the water parks open at the end of September? Hows the weather like? We are brinning my son for his first birthday...will he enjoy the water parks or is it mostly for older kids?

At least one of the two Disney water parks is always open and both should be in full swing in September. And that's a good thing because September at Walt Disney World can be HOT. Average daytime highs at the end of September are in the high 80s and nighttime lows only dip down into the 70s.

There are a dedicated play areas for small children at both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. You can take a look at Typhoon Lagoon's area for little ones by clicking on the box called "Meet Angela Basset ..." near the top right of the Moms Panel page. On the second page of videos there, you'll find some footage of my daughters and I enjoying this area of Typhoon Lagoon. The play areas include splash pools, small slides, and interactive fountains.

As for whether your son will enjoy a water park, certainly he will. But then again, at that age he's likely to enjoy just about any water play he shares with you. If you're already headed to a water park, then you can feel confident that you'll find a happy place to enjoy the water with your son. On the other hand, I don't think that I personally would go to the extra expense of purchasing water park admission tickets for the adults in my group simply so that a one-year-old could go there. So, if you want to experience a water park, then it's a great place for the whole family. If you're just going for your son, honestly he'd probably be just as happy at the hotel pool, and there's no extra admission charge for that.
