Hi, Matt!
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. How awesome that you're already doing some advance planning for your next trip to the House of the Mouse in summer 2014!
Chef Mickey's is high on my family's list of favorite Disney World character dining experiences - it's a great choice for breakfast! My daughter and I never fail to enjoy the special Mickey waffles! For a character dinner on a non-park day, I would recommend
Mickey's Backyard BBQ at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. This country hoedown is a family favorite - there's live music, line dancing with Disney characters (Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Chip 'n Dale are regularly in attendance), cowboy rope tricks, and a BBQ picnic with ribs, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and mac 'n cheese. Since this is a table-service dinner show, you'll want to make advance reservations up to 180 days prior to your arrival.
Other options for dinner in a unique atmosphere with a kid-friendly menu are
Sanaa at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas-Kidani Village and
Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Both of these restaurants are located in beautiful Deluxe Resort hotels which you can explore after your meal. Sanaa is an amazing dining experience where you can enjoy watching African wildlife on the Sunset Savanna right from your table (thanks to huge floor-to-ceiling windows). Whispering Canyon Cafe is a bit more rowdy, but kids love the Lincoln Logs and hobby horse races.
Wishing you a
magical vacation!
