I am wanting to have a park day starting at California adventure and then to a brunch reservation at storyteller cafe. Will I then be able to use the hotel guest exit to make my way back into the park? Or will we have to go all the way around?

Hi Erik! Welcome to planDisney. You are definitely ahead of the game when it comes to planning a magical Disney day—time in the parks followed by brunch sounds like a practically perfect itinerary! I’m happy to help you start solidifying those plans.

In most cases, you do not have to be a guest of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel use its exclusive entrance into Disney California Adventure. However, there are a couple of important caveats to keep in mind. First, if you’re entering Disney California Adventure through the Grand Californian entrance, you’ll need to show a valid theme park ticket and confirm you have a park reservation for that day. Additionally, this entrance can experience temporary restrictions during peak times—such as Early Entry, regular park opening, or when a special event like Oogie Boogie Bash is underway. (And here’s a quick tip: no hotel room key or park ticket is required to use the Grand Californian’s entrance into the Downtown Disney District, which makes it perfect for a leisurely stroll to shop or dine!)

Erik, I should also mention that the entrance into Disney California Adventure from Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel is currently undergoing enhancements to introduce updated, more streamlined entry gates. The construction is projected to wrap up by mid-May, but I recommend checking the Disney Parks Blog for the most up-to-date info as your visit approaches.

If you're looking for a more whimsical way to arrive at the parks, don’t forget about the Disneyland Monorail! The station is located in the Downtown Disney District, just beyond the hotel security checkpoint. This sleek, retro-futuristic ride glides you above the treetops and drops you off inside the heart of Tomorrowland. Along the way, you’ll pass over iconic landmarks like the Autopia track, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and the bubbling submarines of Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. It’s a uniquely scenic way to begin (or end) your Disneyland adventure....and a favorite of mine for that little extra pixie dust at the start of the day.

Erik, I hope you have a truly unforgettable visit filled with magical moments and mouthwatering memories (especially if brunch is involved!). If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me or any of my fellow panelists here at planDisney. We’re always happy to help you make your Disney dreams come true.

Wishing you the most magical time,
    David
