I wanted to do a Disney Photography session to get professional family photos at Yacht Club first week in April. I read they are not currently taking bookings. Any suggestions on how to get some nice, family photos using my camera? Thanks!

Hello there, Melanie! Welcome back to planDisney! We are so excited that you’ve taken the time to stop back by and ask another excellent Walt Disney World Resort vacation question!

Hands down, the number one, absolute best part of visiting Walt Disney World Resort is all of the memories you can make either by yourself or with your loved ones! For my own family, our favorite souvenirs are all of the wonderful photos we have from our trips throughout the years that transport us right back into those magical experiences.

It is true that Disney Fine Art Photography is not currently booking new Family Portrait Reservations during the initial re-opening stages at Walt Disney World Resort, however, you can still capture all those amazing photos throughout your vacation! Whether you are using your own stand-alone camera or even the camera on your smartphone, with just a few quick tips you’ll be able to capture some photos of your entire family all by yourself!

My first recommendation would be to get a tripod for your device. This will allow you to place your device exactly where it needs to be for your shot. The next piece of equipment that may come in handy is a Bluetooth remote for your device which will allow you to take a photo while also posing with your family! Next, be sure to check out potential areas you may want to take your family portrait at. While staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, there will be many picture-perfect spots to capture your family fun! I would recommend walking along Disney’s BoardWalk and checking out all of the adorable Disney Resort hotels in the area for possible backdrops. Finally, try to plan your photoshoot either in the morning or in the evening when the sun is at its softest. This will help reduce the number of over-exposed photos you have in addition to being possibly the least busy times of day!

Another option would be to ask the Disney PhotoPass photographers to take your photo for you inside the theme parks! Disney PhotoPass photographers are located in some of the most scenic areas of the park and are incredibly helpful when it comes to snapping shots of your family!

I hope this information helps you plan for your practically perfect family photoshoot! Please let us know if we can assist with planning any other parts of your Walt Disney World Resort vacation!
