Hi all! Will be visiting WDW for the 4th time in the fall. Last year we stayed@AKL but have Wilderness Lodge booked for this trip. We are thinking about going back to AKL b/c we loved it! Any suggestions to help us decide? Our DS is 8 & DD is 6. T

    Hi Diana,

I've stayed at both the Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge several times. They're both great, you can't go wrong with either one, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the WL. The themeing is incredible; you really feel like you're in the North woods. The pool is great. There's a sandy beach area, which the AKL doesn't have. And two of my favorite Disney restaurants are at the WL. Both Artist Point and the Whispering Canyon Cafe are real winners. The WL has a nice walk/jog/bike path over to Fort Wilderness so you can go over there to take in some fishing. There are also boat rental opportunities at the WL that are not available at the AKL.

However, the biggest advantage the WL has over the AKL is the transportation. WL is just a quick boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom. In my experience, this is much, much faster than the bus from the AKL. The WL also has boat service to Fort Wilderness (easy to get to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue) and the Contemporary (easy to get to Chef Mickey's and the monorail).

If your kids are super dedicated animal lovers, then stick with the AKL, but otherwise I think you'll have a great time branching out at the Wilderness Lodge.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
