Hi I am visiting WDW in November with my 5 year old twins for the 3rd year in a row however both children are afraid of the characters and tend to hide when they come out. Could you please give me any advice on how to handle this.

    Hi Lisa,

My youngest daughter, Nicole, was terrified of the characters as well.  She had the misfortune of coming around the bend when she was two and ran into Goofy.  He is the tallest character so you can imagine how startled she was.

How we overcame her fear was to not push the characters on her.  We did warm her up by going to the characters which look more like us-Cinderella, Mulan, Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, Jasmine, etc.  These characters first of all can talk to you which takes away some of the "mystery".  Second, they look like adults at Halloween which children have seen.

When Nicole went up to Cinderella, Cinderella got down to her level and talked to her.  She did not go near Nicole until Nicole was ready. She was just so lovely.  We visited her in Mickey's Toontown in Magic Kingdom. After we mastered these characters, we went to the Crystal Palace and the Pooh Crew who are just so nice.

Finally, just how you thought they would never get potty trained, they will not get married without taking one picture with a character!
