We will be visiting WDW 10/24-10/31- We have already reservations to a couple of restaurants we didn't want to miss, but wanted to also leave our itinerary a little free. How difficult is it to be worked in restrnts like Whispering Canyon at breakfast?

The Whispering Canyon Cafe breakfast is not one that you necessarily need to reserve six months in advance, as it will primarily be Wilderness Lodge guests dining there. But I wouldn't leave it totally up to chance either.

I often stay at the Wilderness Lodge (it's my Disney Vacation Club home resort) and have eaten breakfast at the WCC at least a dozen times. My experience has been that the earlier in the morning you show up, the more likely you are to get a walk-in seat without waiting. For example, if you arrive at 7:30 a.m., there's a good chance that you'll find some availability and the wait will be minimal. If you arrive at 9:00 a.m., you might have to wait a good long time or be shut out altogether. You can help yourself out a lot here by making some reservations even during your stay as you see how your vacation plays out. For example, if you know the afternoon before that you're going to want to sleep in the next day and have breakfast at the WCC at about 9:30, give Disney Dining a call. That way, you'll be assured of getting the meal you want at the time you want it. If you're staying at the Wilderness Lodge, another strategy would be to stop by the restaurant podium on your way in for the night (assuming that the WCC is still open) and ask them how crowded the schedule looks for the morning. This will give you a good idea of what time you'd have to arrive to be seated quickly.

This type of strategy would really only work at breakfast at a non-character meal. For any character meal, any signature dining experience, any dinner show, ANY meal during a holiday week, ANY meal during free dining, or anything else you really have your hopes on, you should reserve as far in advance as possible by calling Disney Dining at 407-WDW-DINE.
