Hi, I am Visiting Orlando in November this year with my two children, who will be 10 and 11 then. We are planning on visiting AK, HS and possibly Epcot. Do you have any tips for a single parent to manage rides without a second adult present? Thanks :)

    Hi Rhian Vivienne!

Welcome to planDisney! I can only imagine all the amazing memories you’ll be making later this year with your kids! It sounds like you’ll be getting to Disney World right around the time the holiday decorations will be going up, which is my absolute favorite time of year to visit.

I’ve done a handful of park days just like this, and they’ve all turned out so much better than I expected. Luckily, almost all of the rides in Disney World fit 3 across, but there are some that only seat 2 across.  Here’s a quick look at the rides in the parks you’re going to that will not seat 3 across.

Animal Kingdom: Expedition Everest. Flight of Passage technically has everyone in their own ride vehicle but you’re right next to each other.

    Epcot: Guardians of the Galaxy

Hollywood Studios: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog Dash, and Smugglers Run. It’s good to note that your whole party will be in the same ride vehicle for Smugglers Run, but you’ll be seated in an individual seat. And on Toy Story Mania, although it can fit 3 across, there are only two controllers to play the game.

One nice thing, though, is that kids 7 and older can ride in their own ride vehicle.  So, if one of your kids is up for riding on their own, this could make things super simple throughout your day. My oldest is still a bit nervous about riding on his own on the rollercoasters, so we skipped those on my solo parenting days in Disney. But he happily jumped into his own ride vehicle on Toy Story Mania so he could try to score higher than his brother and mom!

A couple of other things that make those days a little smoother for us are using mobile food ordering and merchandise mobile checkout on the My Disney Experience app. Sign me up for any time I can skip waiting in line!

Beyond that, I’ve found that focusing on more of the extra experiences around the parks makes for an even more laid-back day than just going on the rides.

At Animal Kingdom, my boys love the nature trails, The Animation Experience at Conservation Station, and getting their Wilderness Explorer Badges. At Hollywood Studios, the shows are a big hit. And at Epcot, the Kidcot Fun Stops and all of the fun play areas around the park are my boys’ favorites.

If you have any other questions as you continue to plan, feel free to come back and visit us! I hope you three have the best time together!
