Visiting in Oct 2010. Family of 4 with 14yr(going on 25) girl and 9yr old boy. First trip for son. Looking for resort that will give us room to not be on top of each other. Son interested in cool pools. Best resort for size, layout & ammenities? T

    Hi Terri!

You've picked a great time to visit Walt Disney World! October is one of our favorite times to enjoy the parks! We especially enjoy the Halloween decorations and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!

Like you, our family has two children of very similar ages! Since the kids are getting a bit older, we usually choose a resort that gives us a little extra room AND sleeping options that allow them to have their own beds. This seems to keep peace in our family!

If you're looking in the Deluxe resort category, the the Beach and Yacht club may be a great pick for your family. The pool area at these resorts (its a shared area) is incredible! From a super slide from a pirate ship, to a lazy river, to a sand bottom pool, there is plenty to offer here! Another great perk of this resort is that it is within walking distance of Epcot and the Boardwalk. Hollywood Studios is only a boat ride (or long walk) away as well. Day beds are also offered in many rooms.

The Polynesian and Contemporary are also great options that offer closer proximity to the Magic Kingdom. Both offer day beds in their large rooms. Our family prefers the Volcano pool area of the Polynesian to that of the Contemporary, but both are great!

And, of course I have to mention the Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Both offer great ambiance and pool areas. PLUS both of these resorts offer bunk beds!

In the moderate resort category, Port Orleans French Quarter is a great option.

If you're looking in the value category of resorts, the All Star Music Family Suites will give you more space, but your son may miss the pool slides. I know our kids do!

I hope this helps with your planning! Enjoy!
