Hi Veronica!
Congratulations on your upcoming visit to Walt Disney World in May! It will be here before you know it!
The
Old Key West Resort (OKW) is wonderful, you will love it! Old Key West has an intimate vibe and feels like a private getaway. You can actually walk from OKW to Downtown Disney from a trail near the OKW South Point area. There is also a boat service from OKW to Downtown Disney. This resort does offer a bus service to each of the four WDW parks, so it is feasible to go back to your room mid-day to let your kids take a rest, but it's just not quite as convenient as The Contemporary.
I've taken my kids to Walt Disney World since they were toddlers and, personally, I like to just do low key activities in the middle of the day instead of going back to the resort. This allows us to stay at the parks all day, but still gives the kids much needed rest time.
We will usually do low-key rides while the kids nap in the strollers. A few suggestions include, Hall of Presidents or Carousel of Progress at The Magic Kingdom. Both of these long shows offer a dark theatre, which is perfect for sleepy little ones to get a little rest. At Epcot, our kids had a nice long nap during the
American Adventure show.
You can also find a shady area with benches and park your kids in their stroller while you enjoy a Dole Whip or other treat.
I hope you have a magical stay!
Magically,
Stacy
