Hi Marcie,
There are lots of fantastic character meals in Walt Disney World that I'm sure your 5 year old son would love. You may want to base your decision on which characters he prefers so I'll list some of my favourites and hope that helps.
Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort features Mickey and friends, these could include Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto. There's a lovely buffet at either breakfast, lunch or dinner and you can also join in with lots of napkin twirling!
Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom plays host to Winnie the Pooh and friends, normally Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet. Again it's a buffet and the characters here are lovely and do a cute little dance around the room which the children can join in with!
The Garden Grill in Epcot has a great character meal at dinner time, normally in attendance is Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale all decked out in their farmers clothes. The meal here is served family style and is delicious. We have always found the characters here to be very attentive and great fun.
At Disney's Hollywood Studios there's the opportunity to dine at either breakfast or lunch with Jo Jo & Goliath and June & Leo at the Hollywood and Vine restaurant, which many little ones love.
If you'd like to look at the other character options and the menus at each restaurant go to
wdwinfo choose dining then click the link on the left which says character dining. Also please note that characters may change.
I hope you both have a great trip,
Jo
