Mary from NJ Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

We will be visiting Disney World for two days in October - 6 adults and one toddler. My husband is a former US Marine with a DD214. I am seeing conflicting information about if (and how) he can obtain discounted park admission. We live in New Jersey.

    Hiya Mary,
Welcome to planDisney! First off, I’m so sorry you’ve been seeing conflicting information about military tickets. Hopefully, we can sort it out and get you on your way to the fun aspects of planning your vacation, such as dining, attractions, and Enchanting Extras.

Veterans with a DD214 form are able to purchase a type of discounted ticket called Magic Your Way. There is currently no limit to how many of these tickets can be purchased by a veteran, so it makes them ideal for family vacations. Here is where it gets tricky, Mary, so I reached out to the Shades of Green ticketing office to ensure I was explaining this correctly. While your husband can purchase these tickets, he would need to purchase them in person at Shades of Green Resort AND do so in January or September. The only way to purchase Magic You Way tickets online with a DD214 is if you plan to stay at Shades of Green in January or September. In that scenario, you could purchase them through the online request form 30 days in advance.

Since you live in New Jersey and you aren’t planning to visit until October, I’m not sure these tickets would be the best option for you and your family. I recommend keeping an eye on the special offers page in case any new non-military-specific discounts are released for the fall. New deals are offered all the time, and you may be able to find something “practically perfect in every way” for you and your family.

I hope this was helpful, Mary, and that I added more clarity to Magic Your Way. Before I let you go, please come back and see me if you need any tips on experiencing Walt Disney World with your toddler. My toddler Mouseketeer has been to the parks so often that we have become pros at maintaining the magic for her (and the sanity for us) at the Most Magical Place on Earth.

    Happy Planning and Semper Fi,

    Ashley F.
