Visiting Disney for first time with 8yr & 5yr old girls. We are debating on purchasing a dining plan. We are staying at Contemporary Resort & plan to visit 1 park per day. Thinking the dinnng plan may be a waste vs. just paying as we go.Thoughts?

    Hi Jenny,

Adding the Walt Disney Dining Plan to your Walt Disney World Resort vacation is a great way to pre-pay one of your larger expenses-meals.

We generally do not purchase the dining plan because we are Disney Vacation Club members and stay in a room with a kitchen. This eliminates one or two meals a day to purchase.

If your girls eat at least two meals a day, I recommend you get the Disney Dining Plan as you will come out ahead for them. The basic dining plan gives you one counter service meal, one table service meal and a snack each day for each person. For guests under 9, you only are paying for one meal and a snack and the other meal is almost free.

If you girls have more sophisticated palates or are not big eaters, you may be better off paying on your own. I recommend looking at the restaurants you would eat at and figuring out what a meal would cost. This will then give you an idea if you should go with the plan or not.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
