I will be visiting Disney for 10 days in July; it's been 12 yrs since my last visit. I have a family if 6 and was wondering if the dining plans were worth purchasing. Trying to stay on a budget, so any advice will help.

    Hi Marisol,

Greetings from a fellow Hoosier! Can I just say that 10 days at the "The Most Magical Place on Earth" sounds INCREDIBLE!? You and your Mouseketeers are going to have an AMAZING vacation this summer!

I love the Disney Dining Plan for several reasons. First, it takes away any worry about dining. When everything is prepaid, I can just relax and enjoy my meals without concern about prices and budgeting. Secondly, I feel like we try more Disney restaurants and snacks when we're on the Disney Dining Plan. When we're not, I end up preparing some of our meals and bringing our own snacks. But when you're comparing the same food you're used to eating at home and something unique or better yet, Mickey-shaped, there's simply no comparison. I really think you'd love having the Disney Dining Plan!

With that said, if you're wanting to watch your budget, I'd encourage you to look through some of the menus to check pricing at the restaurants where you'll be dining. The Disney Dining Plan includes a LOT of food, and if you're not sure if you'll eat that much, then it may not be as great of a value. Also, what ages are your children? At the Walt Disney World Resort, kids 10 and up are considered adults and will pay adult prices at the restaurants and for the Disney Dining Plan. The opposite could also be true for what I said above: if you're wanting to cut costs, bringing your own food and drinks with you into the parks for some meals or snacks and simply paying out of pocket rather than with the Disney Dining Plan when you do enjoy the restaurants could save you money overall.

Whatever you decide to do, Marisol, I hope that you and your family have a truly magical...and delicious...vacation!
