Hello, Jamie! You must be so excited about your upcoming trip to Disney's Beach Club Resort!
As a mom of three teen and tween boys, I began letting my kids stay home alone for short periods when they were 12 years old so that I could run out for an errand or two. I gave them guidelines and expectations, and I felt this helped them become more responsible. That being said, staying alone really depends on the maturity level of each individual child. Walt Disney World Resort does not have a specific policy in place about the age at which kids can be left alone in a resort hotel room. On previous Walt Disney World trips (when our oldest had reached the late tweens age), my husband and I let the boys sleep in while we grabbed a cup of coffee from the resort's quick service restaurant without a problem.
However, I'd like to offer you a couple of options to consider. First of all, is
Kid's Nite Out, which is an in-room sitting service recommended by Disney. I've used their sitters when I traveled alone with my then 9-year-old, and I can attest they are professional and fun. Contact them at (407) 828-0920 for more information. Depending on where you are planning to go on your date night, think about signing the boys up for
Pixar Play Zone at Disney's Contemporary Resort. The kids are fed dinner and dessert and get to hang out with fan favorite Pixar characters from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM. Reservations are strongly suggested- call (407) 939-3463.
One thing I know your boys will love, Jamie, is cooling off at the
Stormalong Bay Pool at Disney's Beach Club Resort. My Mouseketeers spent hours in the sand bottom pool and lazy river when we stayed here!
