We will be visiting Aulani for the first time in a couple of weeks. What's the one thing you wish you knew before your first trip to Aulani? What activity/excursion would you recommend we not miss with an 8 yr old who loves water?

    Aloha Penny,

I wish I realized how hard it would be to leave this beautiful place! It truly is one of my favorite vacation spots and I have been blessed to have visited twice and I am planning a third time.

I think renting a car was a blessing. The first time I was at the resort I stayed on property except when I went on the Disney excursion and took the bus provided by Disney. On my second trip, we rented a car and were able to explore the island at our own pace. We did two tours that Disney offered but were able to save money because we had our own transportation. In addition, one tour, Hawaiian Fire Surf School (highly recommended) is only offered certain days from Aulani. We were able to book a different day because we did not rely on Disney transportation.

The car also gave us the ability to take our favorite excursion which was swimming with the dolphins in the Pacific. We booked a tour with Dolphin Excursions and it was amazing. We saved on transportation and they included lunch with our tour. We had dolphins swimming a few feet from us. We also saw monk seals and sea turtles. The tour was safe and they had a wonderful crew with us at sea. I highly recommend this for a water loving eight year old.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
